Introducing the Eid bookmark. This has been exclusively designed for DBC, meaning no one else has it and is full of the cutest icons.
This design is March's Charity Bookmark of the Month, a small campaign I will be doing throughout the year, to help raise awareness and funding for charities in the UK. There is no code needed but £1 from each bookmark sold will go to the South Asian Health Foundation.
The SAHF is a registered charity that has been running for 25 years (since 1999) which was founded to promote and aid good health in the UK's South Asian communities and they are one of the leading British Asian health charities. Their mission is to assist people in the UK, particularly of South Asian origin who experience conditions of sickness, hardship or distress in particular by supporting organisations; implementing and establishing developmental projects which serve the needs of those persons and improve their conditions of need.
Their strategies include improving the quality and access to healthcare, promoting research to the above, to act as an advocacy group for those who need them and to harness and disseminate good practice.
In the field of ethnic health, the charity has
-
provided community engagement, with education and resources delivered at a grassroots level
-
developed and delivered education and resources for healthcare professionals
-
catalysed high quality research and development
So far they have addressed the inequity in the following: diabetes, cardiovascular disease, but also in cancer, mental health, musculoskeletal medicine, gastroenterology, hepatology, maternal health and child health.
They also have a report "health inequalities full stop" which is includes a series of short articles from different fields in medicines, talking in depth on different illnesses, and health issues and showing recommendations and potential solutions - find that here. There are also other helpful resources in this section such as videos and articles.
After researching SAHF it felt like the perfect charity to donate to for the first DBC Charity Bookmark of the Month. It is important to use our voices and platforms to face these issues head on and raise awareness for the communities. If you would like to know more about this charity and the work they do visit their website here.
All donations will be made in April.
